As one of the key activities for the October Transport Month (OTM), MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Bentley Vass, accompanied by the Head of Department, Rodney Pieterse and other dignitaries, delivered 50 Shova Kalula Bicycles to Prieska Combined School in Prieska in the Siyathemba Local Municipality (Pixley Ka Seme District).
The aim of the Shova Kalula Bicycle programme started in 2005, to improve access to education of learners staying between three to five kilometres away from schools, especially in rural areas.
MEC Vass encouraged the learners to take their education seriously and to ensure a better future for themselves and the country. “We are celebrating October Transport Month as a country to highlight the importance of transport in our economy and social life. I trust that the donation of these bicycles will help you to be on time and to attend to other extra-mural activities of the school, without many challenges”, said MEC Vass.
