MEC Bentley Vass responsible for the Department of Transport, Safety & Liaison, and COGHSTA, today (25 September 2024), participated in the first MINMEC (Minister and MECs) meeting of the Police in the seventh administration, Pretoria (Gauteng).
The MINMEC was chaired by the Minister of Police, Mr. Senzo Mchunu, and also attended by both Deputy Ministers, Mr. Cassel Mathale and Ms. Polly Boshielo as well as the MECs from the nine (9) provinces.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Commissioners (including the Northern Cape Commissioner, Lt. General Otola) also attended the meeting that deliberated on issues including the Integrated Crime and Violence Prevention Strategy; Quarter One Crime Statistics; types of crime and crime hotspots; update on police station infrastructure and building of police station and building of police stations across the country, and the capacitation of the Station Commanders and the Police Station Management.
Presentations were also received from amongst others the DPCI (Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation), IPID (Independent Police Investigative Directorate), and PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority).
