MEC Bentley Vass delivered his keynote address at the SAPS Community Imbizo this afternoon at the Kagung Community Hall in Kuruman, John Taolo Gaetsewe District. The imbizo was attended by Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Ngubelanga, Kgosi TD Jantjie, Department of Correctional Services, Commissioner Moodley, Department of Home Affairs, Ms. H Ramashiyane and the District Commissioner, Major General Besnaar.
The purpose of this imbizo was to listen to the cries of the community residents and navigate ways in which SAPS together with the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison can intervene to make the community safer and more resilient to various acts of crime.
In his address, the MEC emphasised on working together, he said, “Community participation in the fight against crime not only enhances public safety but also builds a more connected and resilient society. Through collective effort, education, and collaboration, communities can create an environment where everyone feels valued and protected. Community Policing Forums (CPF) were set up to involve all local stakeholders and key organisations in the local policing efforts. These forums aim to foster a cooperative relationship between the police force and the communities they serve. By encouraging an open dialogue and collaboration, CPFs work towards creating safer neighbourhoods and improving trust in law enforcement.
