MEC Nomandla Bloem for Dept. of Transport, Safety & Liaison was accompanied by HoD Rodney Pieterse to hand over Shova Kalula Bicycles at the Veritas Secondary School and Alphas Primary School in De Aar, on 22 May 2024.
The event was initiated with a prayer by Pastor Pieterse and a warm welcome by the Local Councillor, Mr. Brandt. Ms. L Mogorosi shared the purpose of the day and the intricacies of the Shova Kalula project with the learners and community members in attendance. “The Shova Kalula project was implemented in the year of 2001 with the aim of improving rural accessibility to education resource centres”, elaborated Ms. Mogorosi.
A learner from Alpha Primary School recited a poem to the audience titled “Learning to Ride a Bicycle”, the poem constructed of colourful poetic devices as the student used meaningful simile’s to elaborate the analogy between life’s challenges and learning how to ride a bicycle.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks done by the headmasters at their respective schools, Mr Swartz (Veritas Secondary School) and Mrs Bitterbosch (Alpha Primary School). The stakeholders that were present include SAPS (South African Police Service).
