MEC Nomandla Bloem for Dept. of Transport, Safety & Liaison alongside SAPS Commissioner, Lt. General K. Otola donated 75 Shova Kalula bicycles to two secondary schools based in Jan Kampdorp, namely Vaalharts Combined School and Hartsvaal Primary School, this monumental occasion occurred at Vaalharts Combined School, on 30 April 2024.
The event kicked off with a short prayer by Mr. V Williams and a warm welcome from the headmaster of Vaalharts Combined School, Mr. WJ Botha. Acting Head of Ministry, Ms. M. Molefe shared the purpose of the day whilst providing learners with the background of the Shova Kalula initiative. Ms. Molefe continued with the objective of the Shova Kalula Bicycle initiative that is to promote cycling as a low cost mobility solution, thus enhancing rural accessibility and urban mobility to enable the underserved communities to participate in socio- economic opportunities, through developmental support to vulnerable groups as identified in target group. During MEC Bloem’s speech she took the opportunity to broaden scholar’s horizon on the rules of the road, the shova kalula vision and the overall importance of education.
The event concluded with a special vote of thanks from headmaster of Hartsvaal Primary School, Mr. T Mokola. Various stakeholders were in attenadnce such as Mayor of Phokwane Municipality, Cllr W. Harmse, SAPS and SGB members.
