MEC Nomandla Bloem for Dept. Of Transport, Safety and Liaison together with the MEC Zolile Monakali for Dept. of Education handed over Shova Kalula bicycles as well as school uniforms and stationery packs to the learners of Lutzburg Intermediate School in Kakamas, ZF Mcgwau, on 16 May 2024.
Mr. Jan Cloete started off the event with a prayer, followed by a warm welcome from the Ward Councillor, Mr. A Johnson. SGB member, Mr. C Brand, shared his gratitude towards the gifting of Shova Kalula Bicycles, school uniforms and stationery. MEC Bloem emphasised, “Lifelong learning should be the end goal” as she expressed the importance of school completion.
The departmental vision of the Shova Kalula pilot project is to maximise the use of bicycle transport services to enable communities to access social and economic opportunities in an affordable, safe, reliable and integrated manner. Hereby enabling that the scholars of the Lutzburg primary school receive Shova Kalula bicycles to lighten the load of mobility. The department is mindful of the fact that, for this project to be more effective, it requires the collaboration and cooperation with all the role-players and stakeholders, thus ensuing the involvement of parental figures and the school teachers to oversee the caregiving and maintenance of the bicycles. The Mayor of Khai-Gariep, Mayor Cllr. Matthys, ended of the session with a vote of thanks. The Department of Education (DoE), SGB members and CWP (Community Workers Programme) was in attendance.
