MEC Nomandla Bloem for Dept. of Transport, Safety & Liaison, alongside MEC Zolile Monakali for Dept. of Education launched the Shova Kalula Bicycle Project for the academic year of 2024 at Monwabisi High School in De Aar, on 22 April 2024.
The main aim and vision of this programme was to donate and hand over Shova Kalula bicycles to the identified beneficiaries within the Pixley Ka Seme District. The initiative ensures that learners whose residential address are five or more kilometers away from their school of attendance are assisted effectively to get to school safely, thus ensuring that they have full access to their education.
As a reformed teacher herself, MEC Bloem shared her wealth of knowledge with learners, emphasizing the importance of passing matric and the pursuit of tertiary education in order for them to accomplish their dreams and attain success. She proceeded to inform learners about the background and significance of the Shova Kalula Project, and emphasised the cruciality of abiding the rules of the road as the learners will be utilising the non-motorised vehicle. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the headmaster of Monwabisi High School, Mr. M Booi.
