The DTSL Namakwa District office conducted an interactive mobilization session ahead of Human Rights Day alongside SAPS Calvinia, Dept. of Health, Junior Station Commissioners, Provincial Traffic, and Community Police Forum in Calvinia West, on 20 March 2024.
The day commenced with a mentoring session for local students, lead by Sergeant RA Leaukes and Hantam Municipality Councillor Ms. S Koopman, on the importance of students school attendance and graduation. Students were given a rude awakening on the affect that absenteeism has on their future and the brunt they will have to bear if they decide to cease enrollment, thus adding to the unemployment rate in their community and limiting their opportunities.
Hantam Municipality Mayor K. Alexander joined the mobilizations team as they raised awareness for Human Rights Day. The mayor spared a moment to listen and address community members in Blikkies Dorp on some of the socio-economic issues they are challenged with. The initiative concluded with a brief outline on the impact of the mobilization session and community members were informed on their basic human rights as civilians.
