[In picture] The DTSL Gender Transformtion unit, in collaboration with the Directorate of Public Prosecution (NPA), facilitated a workshop for departmental staff at the Provincial Treasury, on 06 March, in Kimberley. The event was initiated by a short prayer from Pastor Louw, followed with a warm welcome by the Programme Director, Ms. S Mapitse. Mr. G Nyongane shared the purpose of the day was to equipt employees with the knowledge on the Amended Acts surrounding domestic violence and sexual offences.
Advocate M. Molaudi, from the Directorate of the Public Prosecution in the Sexual Offences and Community Affairs unit, discussed the various challenges concerning GBVF and sexual offences. He continued to highlight the impediment of case withdrawals pertaining to physical abuse and sexual offence cases. At the beginning of the presentation, Mr. Molaudi defined and broadly explained the amended acts, namely Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998 which constitutes the acts such as the Sexual Offence Act, Children’s Act, Divorce Act, Maintenance Act, and the GBVF Amended Act which contains three different subordinates.
Employees engaged amongst each other and were eager to ask questions about matters pertaining to domestic violence and sexual offences, which in turn will serve as a helping hand to spread the message of GBVF, domestic violence or any sexual offence within their respective neighbourhoods. The workshop drew to a close with a vote of thanks by Ms. MP Mogorosi.
