The Department of Transport, Safety & Liaison joined hands with the Dept. of Social Development, Dept. of Health and Sisterhood Heroine at Steynville High School, today, 9 December 2023.
Education has a central part to play in challenging the negative social norms that drive gender-based violence. No safety concern was consigned to oblivion as road safety, health services, alcohol abuse, gender-based violence, human trafficking and child prostitution took centre stage throughout the day.
It is essential that young people have a deeper understanding, and feel confident in addressing issues in their respective communities. Today's sobriety cultural activity is a leap forward to combat gender inequalities and safety concerns for Hopetown residents.
The day concluded with an educational re-enactment of a gender-based violence drama, the purpose is to inculcate today’s children and teenagers with a firm belief in gender equality and non-violence, this is only possible by gradually changing mind-sets and cultural beliefs as the old cultural guards pass away.
