As the world commemorates the 2023 World AIDS day, which carries the theme “Let Communities Lead", which is a clarion call to bring the HIV/AIDS epidemic at the forefront of communities and a time to renew our focus to community led interventions.
The DTSL- Gender, Disability and Special Programmes unit, together with the departmental employees, observed the day with a prayer session and a candlelight ceremony in memory of all of those who sadly lost their lives to HIV/AIDS. Red ribbons were given to employees as a symbol of support to those who are infected and affected, as well as to address the stigma and discrimination of those living with HIV/AIDS.
The department calls for the work and concerted efforts of community organisations to be recognised towards ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic and unite against the HIV/ AIDS stigma and discrimination on this day and beyond.
The Head of Department, Mr. Rodney Pieterse, led the commemorative ceremony.
