On 16 November 2023, the day was focussed on the visually impaired as we observe Disability Rights Awareness Month (DRAM) under the theme “Consolidate and Accelerate Rights of People with Disabilities into the future". Annually between 3 November and 3 December marks Dram.
The Gender, Disability and Special Programmes Unit hosted an awareness session at the Northern Cape Society for the Blind in Kimberley, to raise awareness on Gender Based Violence and Femicide as well as to promote and advance inclusion practises and examine the present, envisage the future we want to see in terms of inclusiveness and resolve existing barriers towards disability inclusion by ensuring resourceful, sustainable and safe environments including the realisation of the rights of persons with disability. The event was attended by the management of the centre, members of the N.C society for the blind as well as persons with disabilities within the department.
