[In Picture] On 26 September 2023, MEC Nomandla Bloem joined Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Koliswa Otola in celebration of Heritage Day under the theme 'Celebrating our cultural diversity in a democratic South Africa'.
In usual top form, SAPS members portrayed various cultural backgrounds so characteristic of our diverse and wonderful South Africa. This also included the cuisine particular to each grouping. During adjudication of winners for cultural display and cuisine, MEC and PC had an opportunity to engage the narratives behind each display and what makes each so beautifully and uniquely South African.
Indian cuisine stepped out the winner after vigorous tasting, while the House of Zulu won best cultural display with their complex and captivating narrative and vibrant depiction of Zulu tradition. 'South Africa has such rich, unique, textured and diverse indigenous knowledge systems that have endured for generations. Living Human Treasures are bearers of our indigenous knowledge and should be called upon by communities to educate our youth on positive moral values.
May we know them, honour them, lift them in our prayers, in our esteem and provide them with platforms to teach our young people ubuntu – the essence of our humanity that moves through us into life - with compassion and care in how we abide within space with our fellow man.'
