MEC Nomandla Bloem joined Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola for the handover of a fully furnished house to an elderly woman in Ntswelengwe Village, Kuruman.
The house was built through offender labour as part of the Department of Correctional Services' approach of ensuring that inmates contribute to community empowerment initiatives throughout their period of incarceration. This approach also ensures that inmates acquire skills which they may use once they are released and it is also part of paying back to communities which they harmed.
This was followed by an Anti- Gender-Based Violence Imbizo at Manyeding village aimed at addressing community concerns regarding GBV - fostering greater levels of understanding and community-police partnership building.
